Forty-something Ruth Jackson is trying to make sense of her life. A stay-at-home wife and mother of three children, Ruth hides embarrassing behaviors (like her compulsive hand-washing or fanatical cleaning) from others but suspects these habits have religious roots. Unaware that she suffers from OCD, she mistakes her overwhelming need to feel clean as a desire for spirituality. Her twisted perceptions push her farther from reality until she eventually connects herself to a new church that she feels has all the answers. Ruth falls as easy prey to the 'charismatic' pastor's mind-controlling sermons about sin and guilt--she knows she'll never be good enough to please God. Pulled deeper into darkness, Ruth is slowly convinced that almost everything is evil and that demons abound everywhere, lurking at her front door.
